To Maintain Safe Following Distance
As the vehicle ahead passes a marker (sign, shadow, road, etc.), start counting “One Thousand One,” “One Thousand Two”, “One Thousand Three, etc.
If you pass the marker before 4 seconds, you’re following too close – remember, as we get older our reaction time is longer.
Inclement weather, slippery roads, etc., allow 5 seconds or more.
